Description: Head with bony ridges. Two dorsal fins, with only soft rays; the first short, with 8 to 11 radios; the second very long, with 35 to 40 spokes and with a notch in the final part. Anal fin as long as the dorsal fin, with 36 to 40 spokes and also with notch. From 8 to 12 gill rakers in the first branchial arch. Slate gray color on the back; flanks and belly silvery. Up to 1.5 m in length.
