Description: Body compressed laterally. A dorsal fin. Large scales, deciduous. Abdominal zone in serrated keel, with modified scales on escutcheons. Operculum with 4 or 5 bony striae. Greenish blue color on the back and silver on the sides and belly; a row of 6 or 8 black spots behind the head. Up to 20 cm in length.
